Darren Sammy is a former West Indian cricketer who was born on December 20, 1983, in Castries, St. Lucia. He was a fast bowling all-rounder and played for the West Indies in all three formats of the game - Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I).
Sammy made his debut for the West Indies in 2004, in a One Day International against Bangladesh. He went on to become the captain of the West Indies team in 2010 and led the team to the ICC World Twenty20 title in 2012 and 2016.
Sammy was known for his hard-hitting ability with the bat and his steady medium-pace bowling. He played for the West Indies in 38 Tests, scoring 1,152 runs and taking 84 wickets. In ODIs, he scored 1,259 runs and took 87 wickets in 126 matches. In T20Is, he scored 587 runs and took 44 wickets in 68 matches.
Apart from his cricketing skills, Sammy was also known for his leadership qualities and his positive attitude on and off the field. He was a popular figure among his teammates and fans, and his contributions to West Indies cricket will always be remembered.
